For years, chocolate has had the reputation of being a guilty indulgence, taste something special and tempting .
The chocolate was seen as an ingredient harmful for several reasons: it was associated with fat and sugar, and contains caffeine.
It blamed, also contribute to several problems, dall'acne to heart disease, obesity from colic.
The link between chocolate and problems such as obesity or heart disease, for example, should not be just chocolate in itself but rather to all the fat, butter (rich in cholesterol) and the cream used in candy and pastries.
Another important aspect is the nutritional content of caffeine.
Caffeine is a powerful stimulant that causes insomnia, irritability, and sometimes even anxiety. But it is the cocoa that chocolate contains a modest amount of caffeine: a cup of coffee, for example, contains caffeine from 5 to 10 times more than a cup of cocoa.
To run any risk from a medical point of view a person should drink at least 4 cups of chocolate a day.
The peoples of Central and South America used it to treat fever, cough, depression associated with pregnancy.
And there is evidence to suggest that chocolate may be helpful in the digestion by facilitating the movement of blood, or may assist in facilitating breathing congestion.
